Thatch is the layer of dead grass and roots that builds up between the soil and the green blades. When it gets thick, water, air and fertilizer can’t reach the roots. We power-rake it out, then core-aerate the lawn, pulling small plugs of soil so the roots can breathe, take up water and spread.

Spring and fall are the best times. Pair dethatching and aeration with fertilizing or overseeding for a thicker, greener lawn that stands up to summer heat.
