When to Schedule a Sprinkler Blowout in Spokane

Our winterizing season starts in late September and ends at the first hard freeze. We work out from Davenport and the schedule fills from the top down, so book early if your system has a lot of zones or runs off a pump — those take longer and we plan the route around them.
Eastern Washington usually takes its first hard freeze sometime in October, and that is the deadline that matters. If you have not booked by the first week of the month, call anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we can still fit you in.

Zone by zone, watching each head, so the water leaves and the hardware does not get chewed up doing it.
Shut off and drain the supply
We close the main valve to the system and open the drain, so most of the water is gone before any air goes in.
Air through one zone at a time
The compressor runs a single zone at a time. Each head gets enough air to push the water out and no more, because dry-running a rotor is how you ruin the gear drive inside it.
Check every head, then close it up
We watch a zone until it is blowing dry mist, move to the next, and when the last one is clear we shut the system down and set the controller for winter.
Why Skipping a Blowout Cracks Pipes
Water expands by about nine percent when it freezes, and in a buried lateral there is nowhere for it to go. The pipe splits, or the crack turns up in a valve body or the backflow assembly where the repair gets expensive fast.
The damage almost never announces itself in winter. You find it in April, when a zone comes up as a fountain instead of a spray pattern and a section of lawn has already gone soft. A blowout costs a small fraction of digging a lateral back up in the spring.
